The Labor/Community Strategy Center (www.thestrategycenter.org) an Afrocentric, anti-Imperialist Climate Justice think tank/act tank in South Central Los Angeles is looking for an experienced canvasser.

You'll spend the majority of your time going door to door in South LA and organizing on Metro Buses and Trains to speak to community residents about becoming a member of the Bus Riders Union.

We're particularly focused on deep engagement with the Black community. You'll also be responsible for organizing new member data via our database.

Experience working in and organizing around Black and Latinx communities preferred.

Channing Martinez, our director of organizing has a long history of organizing on the Metro Buses and Trains over the last 15 years.

Barbara Lott Holland, Associate director, joined the Bus Riders Union as a member 20 years ago. Barbara learned the theory and practice of Transformative organizing at the Strategy Center.

Barbara and Channing are the co-chairs of the Bus Riders Union and will be your supervisors.

The Strategy Center is a movement building organization building a machine to take on the system. We operate Strategy & Soul Movement Center, a 4 storefront community center consisting of Strategy & Soul Theater, Strategy and Soul Bookstore, the Bus Riders Union/Fight for the Soul of the Cities Community Office and Strategy and Soul Food.

We need your help to fight for:

Free Public Transportation
End the Police State on MTA Buses & Trains
Stop Racial Profiling of Black passengers
End All Anti-Black policies on Metro Buses and Trains
No Police in LAUSD Schools - End Colonial Education in LAUSD Schools
No Cars in LA--End the US Climate war against the Third World
Stop US war plans against China, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, and all Third World Nations.

You'll begin with 10-20 hours a week @$20 per hour

Qualifications

Strong work history in canvassing and/or organizing with movement groups/non-profits/political candidates or political parties.

Collective mindset/culture, ability to work as a team and understand how to work in an organizational setting.

Planned and Conscious Character: all prospective candidates must be well organized, able to understand political line difference, and able to build deep relationships with low income Black and Latinx bus riders, students, workers, immigrants, and houseless people.
